Date: March 28-29,
2008 Registration fee: $400
per team (up to four teams) Please join us in a tournament designed to train students to be mediators and effectively represent clients in mediation. Both the Chicago Bar Association and the International Academy of Dispute Resolution are dedicated to training law students in mediation because of its growing importance across the nation. The tournament is not only educational, but enables students with common goals and interests to work together and share ideas. The tournament is low key and provides time for students to enjoy themselves in Chicago.
The tournament provides:
· Three students per team. · Mediator training provided Thursday afternoon and attorney advocacy training Friday morning. · A mediator training book (Lane and Calkins, Mediation Practice Guide) and a videotape of a championship round will be provided at no charge, upon request. · Registration fee includes food and beverages and awards luncheon Saturday afternoon. · Awards provided to the top ten mediators and the top ten attorney/client teams.
About the tournament:
· Three preliminary rounds. Each team member must co-mediate (with a student from another school) one round. · The two remaining team members constitute the attorney/client team and represent either the plaintiff or defendant in the round. · The top four mediators and top four attorney/client teams go into the finals and are ranked 1st through 4th.
